Junior, Filip Saitis, Wins 1st Congressional District Art Competition

Congratulations to CLS junior, Filip Saitis, for winning the 1st Congressional District 36th Annual Art Competition – An Artistic Discovery. Filip’s piece, “Expunged”, was entered into the contest by AP Art teacher Kristie Nixon. Congressman and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan announced Filip as the winner in Madison April 1, 2017, with family, friends, and art teacher, Mrs. Nixon, in attendance. “The amount of artistic talent here in Wisconsin’s First District never fails to impress me. Filip should be proud of his achievement—we received a number of stunning pieces this year. I want to congratulate Filip, his family, and his teacher, Kristie Nixon, on this accomplishment, and thank all the other young artists who submitted pieces for consideration in this year’s competition,” said Congressman Ryan.

“Expunged” will be showcased in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Capitol Building for one year. Filip is also eligible for scholarship opportunities from the Savannah college of Arts and Design. His family will fly to Washington, D.C. for a national reception honoring the winning artists from all over the country.
