Music Ministry Teacher
Get to know Music Ministry teacher, Mandy Vargas. The love of Jesus shines through Miss Vargas as she strives to lead her students in worship daily.
What classes and grade level(s) do you teach?
I teach Music Ministry for the High School.
What do you love most about CLS?
I love that the students get the chance in every class period to grow in their relationship with Christ. Even if it’s Science or History class, there’s a way that He is glorified through that. I went to public schools growing up, and there’s just something so freeing about being able to talk about Jesus in school and to get together to worship Him every Friday as a collective group!
Why do you like teaching at CLS?
I love getting to raise up future worship leaders and show them how important it is to worship through all seasons of life. God is the only constant in life and we should worship Him and seek Him daily.
How are faith and learning integrated at CLS?
The experience that I’ve had at CLS is a little different than a regular course of study. Since I teach Music Ministry, I am literally teaching faith. It is an honor to explain to them how even when things are bad or when we are nervous about what’s to come, worship will forever be one of the best ways to communicate with God, the King of the world. I constantly tell my class to really think about what they’re singing. Think about the words they are singing to Him when they worship and what it means to really believe it.
How do you make a spiritual impact on your students?
One of my first assignments for my students was for them to come see me lead worship one time at Journey Church. When I lead worship and communicate with God, I pray I do it genuinely and authentically. I want them to see God through me. And then I want them to help translate that into their own lives and their own spiritual lives. I’ve also lead worship a couple times this year at CLS for chapel and I always hope that they are able to see how much I love Jesus and how much I love to worship Jesus!
What is a unique experience, talent or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?
Currently, one of my other jobs is being a worship leader at Journey Church. I believe that is the main thing that connects me to my students. They get to see me “in my element” every day because leading worship is my passion!
What sets CLS students apart from other students?
CLS students are just regular students that are amped up on the love of Jesus! That alone sets them apart.
