Upper School Art Teacher
Get to know Upper School Art Teacher, Kristie Nixon. Mrs. Nixon has a passion for developing students not only as artists, but also as people who love Jesus and can take skills learned at CLS into the real world.
What classes and grade level(s) do you teach?
I teach Art for Upper School.
What do you love most about CLS?
I love the students and staff. Our students are hard working, dedicated, and want to learn! I think we have the best students around!
Why do you like teaching at CLS?
I like being at CLS because of the ability to inspire and encourage students to have the same love of art that I have.
How are faith and learning integrated at CLS?
In every aspect of our teaching, we consider how we can integrate faith or principles of God. Character development is a core aspect of the way we conduct our classes and approach our students.
How do you make a spiritual impact on your students?
I love the relational aspect of teaching. I love being able to check in with students and ask them how they are doing and being able to tie it back to what God is teaching us.
What is a unique experience, talent, or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?
When I approach my art project and lessons, I look at them as opportunities to develop not only creativity, but also opportunities to develop problem-solving, innovation, and out of the box thinking. As our students move on after high school, I want to know I gave them not only the academic tools but also the life skills they need to be successful. Previous to working at CLS, I worked for a major international company, and when we looked to hire new employees, these were some of the key things we were looking for as these skills are adaptable to all areas of our business.
What sets CLS students apart from other students?
I think CLS students really want to be involved and want to be successful. They want to be influencers in the world around them. As a teacher, I pray that we are helping them succeed.
